“self defense training wikipedia real life self defense training”

It will be dependent on your club’s training and how much sparring is involved but generally speaking it should give you an advantage, although something like Krav Maga or Muay Thai will make that advantage a lot bigger. All the best
This martial arts discipline focuses on teaching its practitioners to effectively defend themselves against a larger sized opponent using leverage and proper technique. Hence, it is as lethal when practiced by females as it is for males.
Every training method for self defense is necessarily lacking. The purpose of techniques is to take your opponent out. If you’re not doing that in training, something is missing. But since we can’t kill or injure our partner each training session, we remove realistic elements. We can remove speed and/or power, lowering intensity to prevent injury, wear protective gear, limit techniques to only those that won’t do serious damage, “pull punches”, etc.
While many fights end on the ground, almost all fights start standing up. Dirty boxing, aka “clinch boxing” or “trap boxing,” prepares you for strikes that work in stand-up grappling and moves that are illegal in the boxing ring.
Similarly courses are currently being taught by many colleges, universities and police departments. The growing, wide spread acceptance of this system is primarily due to the ease, simplicity and effectiveness of the tactics, solid research, legal defensibility and unique teaching methodology. The training is dedicated to teaching woman defensive concepts and techniques against various types of assaults, by utilizing easy, effective and proven self-defense/martial arts tactics. This system of realistic defense will provide a woman with the knowledge to make an educated decision about resistance.
Translated as ‘Contact Combat’ Krav Maga combines moves from various other martial arts style such as punches from Western Boxing, Karate kicks & knees, BJJ’s ground fighting as well as ‘bursting’ that has been adapted from the ancient Chinese martial arts, Wing Chun.
One of the worst elements of a real assault is the mental shock of being physically attacked. Even a moderate blow, shove, or grab can cause a person who has not experienced such contact to mentally freeze. Therefore, training must include sport style sparring in all areas, stand-up, clinch, and ground. It is absolutely essential that every self defense practitioner has experience hitting another person and getting hit, shoving another person and getting shoved, throwing, being thrown, and wrestling. This can and should be done safely, beginning with low intensity and only increasing speed and power as appropriate.
This celebrated national combat sport of Thailand is a dauntingly ruthless martial arts discipline that work effectively when used as a self-defense system. Commonly found within MMA training, with precise moves using knees, elbows, shins, and hands to deliver bone-crushing strikes, it is all about using our own body parts as weapons.
In many cases there are also legal restrictions. While in some jurisdictions firearms may be carried openly or concealed expressly for this purpose, there are also jurisdictions with tight restrictions on who can own firearms, and what types they can own. Knives, especially those categorized as switchblades may also be controlled, as may batons, pepper spray and personal stun guns and Tasers – although some may be legal to carry with a licence or for certain professions.
Wing Chun Kung Fu is the art that Yip Man taught to Bruce Lee, and which Lee rebelled against as too slow and formal for self-defense. That’s quite misleading. He meant that it was insufficient for him when fighting against professional martial art experts, like Wong Jack Man, with whom he fought a famous duel.
1. Bad guys hit back…AND defend themselves. Run away screaming from any system that tells you to ignore defense and just hit lethal targets on the bad guy’s body. This will work on a drunk. Maybe. Believe it or not, there are extremely popular and super-expensive training systems out there that advocate this. Their training borders on the criminally negligent.
2) Real Fighting simulation – If you want to train to be ready for actual situations, then practice simulations of actual attack whether prepared or unprepared, standing up or sitting down, weapon or no weapon, single or multiple assailants, with weapons or barehand etc etc

Apologies for the late reply. I would recommend Mastering Krav Maga (Volume I) 6 DVD Set — Self-Defense (Beginner to Advanced), as David Kahn is well known in Krav Maga and you can therefore be certain the instruction you receive is correct. Please do make a point of also attending classes or a course as you have to develop your reflexes to apply Krav Maga, and that can mostly only be done in a class atmosphere. All the best
If he charges forward and grabs your shirt, you do not move backward. You move forward and bend down, ram your hip into his midsection, grab one of his shoulders with one hand, and with the other grab him around his back, and whip him over your own shoulder, shoving upward with both legs. A 100 pound woman can do this very easily to a 250 pound man. You can then trap one of his arms and lock one of its joints while he is down.
Martial Artist: Thanks very much for your response. Ok, next year around the same time I’ll signup my son at IKMF Toronto. It seems at IKMF that kids lessons are only once a week, so my son can still do BJJ at OpenMat the rest of the week.
So following this line of thinking, if you are the average middle aged woman in a relatively safe city, it is extremely unlikely that you will ever find yourself having to fight for life; or if so, it is extremely unlikely that you will have to do so against a well trained opponent. So no need to achieve ninja status. For most types of situations in which most women will find themselves relying on a martial art, they need to break an attack (often from someone they know) and get away. In these circumstances, a style such as judo, jiu jitsu or aikido is perfect. Their attacker will probably be grabbing them, and all these arts teach their practitioners to redirect their opponent’s energy and counterattack with throws or locks, and each style uses a larger person’s weight against him.
FMA’s hand-to-hand fighting follows the principle that the same stick techniques can be applied without the stick since the stick is only an extension of the body. Although the resulting techniques are not too bad, I have seen better.
4)  Understanding of the law meant I knew I had to control my opponent after he hit the ground rather than continue to pound him/deal damage, called the police and requested bystanders/witness to please remain to give a statement,
