There are hundreds if not thousands of martial arts styles out there but I’ve put together a list of the best of the best. Knowing any one of them (especially #1) can turn your body into a veritable weapon.

Staying up is key in determining who will win the fight, and how properly you can defend yourself. Much of the power in a punch comes from the pivoting motion of your hips and legs, and therefore, it is important to have a solid base from which to throw a defensive counter.
The system is well known for its  locks and chokes and as we can see from the footage of a street fight below it is a very capable style.  BJJ does not focus on sefl defence these days and has become more of a sport. Guard passing, mount  and other postiions earn points for the player in competition. 
It will be dependent on your club’s training and how much sparring is involved but generally speaking it should give you an advantage, although something like Krav Maga or Muay Thai will make that advantage a lot bigger. All the best

3.) I’d like to get them involved in a martial art. Is Aikido a good choice? My thinking is that since it takes a long time to master and they are so young, they would have time to practice and grow into it. Or is Aikido to much of a “by-gone” martial art? If not aikido, what other martial art would you recommend for young kids to start with?
