Violent confrontations in reality… happen EXTREMELY FAST… and you don’t have time to THINK. You’ve got SECONDS to either prevail and walk away (or stagger away, or run away)… or wind up on the deck hurt, and quite possibly hurt BADLY enough to be in danger of death.
I want to thank you for telling the truth re self-defense and violence. I am a Brazilian Juijitsu fighter and at the age of 52 I know what works and what just looks good. There are so many “belt mills” in America fooling countless young men and women into thinking they are prepared for street violence. A voice like yours is greatly needed and appreciated. Thanks again.
Principles: It’s hard to pin down the technical aspects of Jeet Kune Do because, frankly, they are constantly in flux. You see, it’s less an organized style and more a fighting philosophy. Bruce Lee didn’t believe in “forms” or “disciplines,” but rather in the practicality of his philosophy in real-world survival situations. As such, it’s hard to say what physical principles JKD adheres to because the answer is – so long as it effectively applies to real-life combat – just about anything goes.So long as it effectively applies to real-life combat – just about anything goes. What JKD does offer, however, is ways of adapting to any combat situation. For instance, it is held in JKD that straight punches are the systems backbone, there’s a focus on explosive unreadable attacks that throw off your opponent, fluidity in any situation is a necessity, and that the simplest least wasteful movements are best. In can be argued that JKD is the most adaptable form of martial art on this list, but it is also the most formless – which has both benefits and drawbacks if you are seeking to learn it.

Additionally, individuals must pass a bi-annual firearms requalification. All eligible flight crew members will attend a one week training in Artesia, New Mexico. There is no fee to participate in the Federal Flight Deck Officer program. Training and equipment costs are covered by TSA.
Kickboxing is a combat sport based on quick movements and precise strikes using both kicks and punches to break the opponent’s defense. Kickboxing was developed out of karate, Muay Thai, Kun Khmer and various boxing moves. Kickboxing is practiced as one of the leading forms of martial arts for self-defense, some sort of general fitness and also as a contact sport. Kickboxing has a major contribution to the emergence of mixed martial art via further hybridization with ground fight techniques from Brazil such as Jiu-Jitsu and folk wrestling. Mixed martial art is one of the major commercial sports. There is even a highly commercialized and entertaining championship for this sport known as UFC (ultimate fighting championship).
Krav Maga is perhaps the most well know of any self defence system in the world. The word Krav Maga in Hebrew means “contact fighting” and it is the official self defence system of the Israeli Defense Forces,
Whilst very similar Sambo has a more combat orientated approach and as such I recommend it over Judo for self defence, sadly there is a lack of Sambo instructors in the world so you might be able to find a Judo club far easier.
Apart from that, the JHP bullets are designed for maximum energy transfer when in contact with target, during penetration. They are also engineered to maximize terminal ballistics, therefore meeting the demands of the FBI test protocol, which simulates real-world threats. Another plus point is that, it comes with the least amount of malfunctions when multiple rounds are fired, for your added convenience.
The second danger is a commitment to the notion of a sovereign subject, which is the centerpiece of authoritarian political ideologies and motivates so many reactionary movements. The growing number of white militias, the sovereign citizen movement, as well as major shifts in interpretations of the Second Amendment and natural rights, are contributing to an increasingly influential politics of self-defense with a sovereign subject at its core. For this sovereign subject—whose freedom can only be actualized through domination—the absolute identification with abstract individual rights always reflects an implicit dependency on state violence, much the way Nechayev’s revolutionist implicitly relies on a community he refuses to acknowledge. The sovereign subject’s disavowal of the social conditions of its own possibility produces an authoritarian concept of the self, whose so-called independence always has the effect of undermining the conditions of freedom for others.
Being aware of and avoiding potentially dangerous situations is one useful technique of self-defense. Attackers will typically select victims they feel they have an advantage against, such as greater physical size, numerical superiority or sobriety versus intoxication. Additionally, any ambush situation inherently puts the defender at a large initiative disadvantage. These factors make fighting to defeat an attacker unlikely to succeed. When avoidance is impossible, one often has a better chance at fighting to escape, such methods have been referred to as ‘break away’ techniques. Understanding the ‘mindset’ of a potential attacker is essential if we are to avoid or escape a potentially life-threatening situation.

My take: Japanese karate has some effective techniques that would be useful in self-defense, especially kicks and direct punches. You don’t need a black belt to achieve real world practicality. But the emphasis on precision and repetition makes the learning process not a whole lot of fun.
If you have ever been hit hard in the stomach, you would understand how important it is to have a strong core and thick abdominal muscles to help weather the blow. One also needs to train quick, explosive movements to help them when they must make quick, split second decisions.
Sometimes a person may have a genuine fear of imminent physical harm that is objectively unreasonable. If the person uses force to defend themselves from the perceived threat, the situation is known as “imperfect self-defense.” Imperfect self-defense does not excuse a person from the crime of using violence, but it can lessen the charges and penalties involved. Not every state recognizes imperfect self-defense, however.
Most people have at least a rail-mounted light on their home-defense long guns, and perhaps also a laser aiming device. PDN Executive Director Rob Pincus likes to use the Viridian C5 or C5L light and laser combos, with their instant-on technology. The Less Efficient Way Rob planned on using the ambidextrous switch when deploying his
So while a lot of armchair badasses may think “I want to train to fight so I can pull the knife out of a mugger’s hand and shove it aaaalllll the way up his ass,” Richard does not consider that self-defense. Self-defense is saying, “Well shit, he can have my wallet. It’s not worth a freaking blade in my lung.” Or even better, saying, “That guy’s acting weird, I’m getting out of here” five minutes earlier.
Krav Maga is mostly a striking Israeli martial art created by Imi Lichtenfield for the IDF and originally had its roots in boxing, karate, and wrestling. Today, the art has been modified to include Muay Thai, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, and various other arts. To put it simply, it’s militarized MMA.
“The most popularized story of Wing Chun’s origin is that of the Buddhist Nun, Ng Mui. It is said that she was one of Five Elders of the Shaolin Temple that managed to escape prior to its destruction. With her high level of Shaolin martial arts, she created a form of self-defense which could transcend size, weight and gender. She drew her inspiration for Wing Chun from the movement of animals, primarily the crane. When applied to the human form, these delicate but natural movements required little force to block and strike effectively and efficiently.
Contact Flow Workshop: If you’ve ever had a private lesson with Grandmaster Tim Carron you know how unique and devastating his contact flow is. Follow along as John Perkins’ top student works one-on-one with many of our black belts at a private Contact Flow Workshop we held in early 2009. Tim’s precision, economy of motion and sensitivity are real eye-openers, and his personal expression of the art looks different than GC creator John Perkin’s (even though the principles are the same) making this DVD an invaluable training tool for advanced practitioners. The reason we say this is because unless you’ve worked with him or at least have a strong foundation in Guided Chaos you won’t really be able to appreciate what you’re seeing.
Once on the ground, the first thing Brazilian jiu-jitsu teaches is to seize a limb and break it at a joint: kneebars for snapping knees or ankles, armbars for snapping and wrists, chokeholds and the use of the powerful legs to immobilize the attacker’s torso while the defender ends the fight with fists or elbows to the face.
While stun guns can be intimidating and painful, the effects are only momentary. You also need to get up close and personal with your aggressor if you intend on using it. To operate a stun-gun you will also need to supply it with batteries, or recharge its internal batteries periodically.
Diplomatic – Do you need to hit or can you resolve this another way? In short, can you talk, negotiate or trick your way out of it? (This point also includes knowing the legal ramifications of hitting and weighing the repercussions vs. the need of the moment.)
