Anyone who has grown up in a tough neighborhood, and has fought seasoned street fighters or multiple assailants knows how far solid wrestling, boxing and judo training can go. Any prison inmate knows that a person with a solid wrestling or boxing background is a formidable opponent…point blank. And anyone who has a little street experience knows how far the average Karate/Kung-Fu training will get you in a real life confrontation with a committed, aggresive, experienced and fit opponent who will fight through pain and injury. Not that Karate or Kung Fu are defunct, only the way that they are trained in American schools does not prepare the students to defend themselves against a committed, experienced and large street fighter the way amateur boxing and wrestling do. My of the ‘lethal’ strikes that are taught sound great in theory and could work in the hands of a master, but are not enough against an angry committed assailant where much of the sport techniques and the presence of mind that boxing and wrestling develop can save your life. (Ex. I’ve been grabbed from behind and before I realized what I was doing, I applied inside slip in from hs wrestling and had turned tables on my opponent before I consciously realized he was my opponent)
History: Sambo is distinct from all other eastern martial arts for one major reason: it was actually developed in the USSR. The term is actually an acronym, which translates literally to “self-defense without weapons” and was first used in the 1920s by the Soviet Red Army to train their troops in hand-to-hand combat. This martial art can be divided into three categories. The first, Combat Sambo, is the type used in military applications. The second, Sport Sambo, is used in competition similarly to the Japanese martial arts Judo and Jiu-Jitsu. And the third, Freestyle Sambo, was crafted by the American Sambo Association and allows for more MMA style applications. In the 1980 Olympic Games, Sambo was demonstrated in the opening ceremonies by the USSR, but was never formally introduced into the Olympic catalogue of sports. Today, Sambo is recognized by FILA as the third form of international wrestling, though it is still in the infant stages of worldwide popularity.
Defence Lab uses a range of elbows and ‘shapes’ that are created with the arms  to build a fearsome style of fighting, however the training environment has zero ego’s and is both fun and friendly. Check out the explosive footage from DL below to  see what I mean:
I’m sure you have heard of the brand, Winchester because it is rather popular among hunters and gun enthusiasts. They are rather expensive in terms of price, however they are totally worth it due to their reliable and excellent performance delivered, to provide you with the best shooting experience.
Krav-maga is a martial art form practiced as standard hand to hand combat for the Israel defense forces; Krav-maga is a hybrid form of Martial art. Well, it turns out I won’t need to move after all and I’m sticking with my major in college. So I guess I’ll ask you about these krav maga guys. Like I said the place you recommended me was shut down maybe a year ago so I can’t train there. Thanks. http://midsouthkravmaga.com/
It would be impossible to describe boxers as ‘complete’ in their training when their focus is on such a narrow field, however, they often possess amazing footwork, defence and fast powerful combination punches.
OK, so what if that doesn’t work and the confrontation keeps escalating? “He’s going to shove you, insult you, provoke you … and most men, when you push them [they push back].” Lots of fights begin with that, a literal push. Richard does not advise pushing back. Instead, he says, you should take the distance the shove grants you and keep backing away. “He has to keep walking toward you now … so you’re going to see him coming, you’re going to see if he has a knife because you took the distance he gave you … as opposed to shoving back …”
Choosing a personal defense weapon for a female requires some further consideration. Typically I would stay away from batons or other melee weapons that may require a considerable amount of force to fend off a larger attacker.
The staff were really helpful and supportive and didn’t make me feel self conscious despite my inexperience (and TOTAL lack off bodily coordination lol) and there were students of all ages and walks of life there, who were also welcoming and helpful. Over all, I was really nervous at first, but…. Read more
‘The Afro-American militant . . . does not introduce violence into a racist social system—the violence . . . has always been there. It is precisely this unchallenged violence that allows a racist social system to perpetuate itself.’
One of the best things people take away from self-defense classes is self-confidence. The last thing you want to be thinking about during an attack is, “Can I really pull this self-defense tactic off?” It’s much easier to take action in an emergency if you’ve already had a few dry runs.
“… [S]o she looks at him and responds, ‘Well yeah, stupid, but you want to do it here on the bathroom floor, or in the bedroom where it’s more comfortable?’ He leans back, not expecting this answer at all … that’s when her knee goes right into his balls. He never saw it coming, right under his field of vision, and when he doubled over, she palm-struck him right under his jaw so hard that she knocked him flat …” At which point she got the hell out of there and got a neighbor to call the cops. Note that we’re not talking about some elaborate ruse here — the point is that if it’s clear that force is necessary, don’t telegraph it or warn them (if they initiated it, they already think they can win the fight). Let it come out of nowhere.
7. If the predator has a gun and you are not under his control, ALWAYS RUN! The predator will only hit you (a running target) 4 in 100 times; and even then, it most likely WILL NOT be a vital organ.  RUN, preferably in a zig-zag pattern! [or in a straight line to cover–an object capable of deflecting bullets]
