Although the machismo and narcissism here is extreme to the point of being mythical—George Jackson said it was “too cold, very much like the fascist psychology”—it does speak to a twofold danger in practices of resistance. The first danger is that self-defensive practices are part of a division of labor that falls along the traditional fault lines of social hierarchies within groups. Men have, for instance, too often taken up the task of community defense in all contexts of resistance, which has the effect of reproducing traditional gender hierarchies and myths of masculine sovereignty. Considerations of self-defense must therefore be intersectionalist and aware of the transformative power and embodied nature resistance, as discussed above. The group INCITE!, for example, seeks to defend women, gender nonconforming, and trans people of color from “violence directed against communities (i.e., police brutality, prisons, racism, economic exploitation, etc.)” as well as from “violence within communities (sexual/domestic violence).”

By this we mean that a wide variety of skill-sets, knowledge, self-awareness and behaviors are involved. Many, that at first glance, might not be obviously related to what you think of as “self-defense.” But each adds an important layer onto the whole of the subject, and therefore, your safety. To illustrate, picture two strangers walking past each other in a city park. Unbeknownst to one, there is a bee buzzing around his head. The other person sees this and, trying to be friendly, reaches quickly towards the other to try and swat the bee away. The person with the bee by his head sees a stranger’s hand dart towards his face and violently hits the other person’s hand away. While this would normally amount to an assault, a court could easily find that the sudden movement of a stranger’s hand towards a person’s face would cause a reasonable man to conclude that he was in danger of immediate physical harm, which would render the use of force a justifiable exercise of the right of self-defense. All this in spite of the fact that the perceived assailant meant no harm; in fact, he was actually trying to help!

Jeet Kune Do was founded by famed martial artist Bruce Lee. Lee’s desire was to take the best, most effective martial arts techniques from a variety of styles and blend them into one fighting system. Jeet Kune Do teaches its students to deal with attacks in the most efficient manner. Jeet Kune Do students learn how to hit the closest target on an attacker with the closest weapon that they have available. Striking an attacker in the eyes with the fingers would be an example of a Jeet Kune Do defense. Jeet Kune Do is a good art for women to learn because it teaches women how to escape dangerous situations as quickly as possible before the danger has an opportunity to escalate.
Some states also consider instances where the person claiming self-defense provoked the attack as imperfect self-defense. For example, if a person creates a conflict that becomes violent then unintentionally kills the other party while defending himself, a claim of self-defense might reduce the charges or punishment, but would not excuse the killing entirely.

The one thing I loved about Judo, Wrestling and BJJ, is that your skill had to work against anyone who came in off the street. There was no hiding behind a point or a rank like I could in TKD. I’ve rolled with pro-football players who were just big, strong, athletic guys and if I didn’t know what I was doing…they would have eaten my lunch. After they learned, well that’s a different story :). 
In 1981, the Krav Maga Association of Israel and the Israeli Ministry of Education held the very first International Instructor’s Course for Krav Maga. In addition to that, the bullet weighs a total of 230 grain. It is of the Jacketed Hollow Point (JHP) type. Therefore, it is rather strong and sturdy due to the hollow point of the bullet being jacketed by harder metal (alloy) coating not only to increase its strength but also to prevent fouling in the barrel, hence contributing to its durability in the long run.
 Whilst very similar Sambo  has a more combat orientated approach and  as such I recommend it over Judo for self defence, sadly there is a lack of Sambo instructors in  the world  so you might be able to find a Judo  club far easier.
Combat Sambo is the form, in my opinion, that is the most effective for the street, although Self-Defence Sambo also carries some weight. Since it is a grappling art, you have to train your reflexes, and practice is an absolute necessity before applying the techniques in a life-threatening situation. Once mastered, the techniques taught are effective, since the whole art is based on real-life situations in the military. But as I said, dedicated practice is required. Their gun defence is also very tricky to master, and doing it improperly by just a bit will get you killed. It took me two months of hard practice before I was able to apply one of the defensive techniques. Their striking is also in my opinion a bit underdeveloped but then again with such effective grappling techniques you will rarely be required to strike an opponent anyway. The biggest challenge for the practitioner is mastering the proper reflexes to apply the art.
A long time ago (too long to be of use to me today), I took some martial arts classes. They had a different attitude toward belts. You could take classes without ever testing for any belt. Once the instructor decided you were ready, you would move up from the beginner classes to the intermediate and then advanced classes without needed a particular belt level.
Judge the culture of the class. Observe the class in action. Then speak with other students to find out what they think of it. Make sure that it is the right fit for you, especially if you have experienced real assault in your own life. Don’t waste time in an unsupportive environment that makes you shy away from taking part.
