I designed the Female Awareness self defense course as a one time, 2 hour class because I know how busy we all are in our day to day lives. Once you take the Open Enrollment 2 hour class you can then practice anytime with our Physical Refresher Class.
Although those who are not too familiar with boxing would argue that boxing is not a martial arts discipline, its practitioners would beg to differ. There is much more to boxing than punching each other’s face until someone decides to give up.
At best, physical technique is only one slice of that pie. Other slices of personal safety include legal issues, social skills, deterrents, psychology, knowledge of how crimes occur, mental preparation and awareness of what you are facing. In short, self-defense is only one small part of the much bigger issue (The analogy we use is a pyramid of personal safety). And even though it is a subset of personal safety, each of these components must be included in effective self-defense training. The hard part isn’t snapping someone’s neck. That’s actually rather simple. The hard part is knowing when and why it is time to do it OR — more importantly– when it isn’t.
In this passage Thoreau highlights how the so-called security of one community was achieved by oppressing another and making it insecure. To properly understand the insurrection, he therefore argues, one must view it as a response to illegitimate structural violence. He enumerates the commonplace mechanisms of this rule, which, for whites, fades into the background of their everyday lives: law and order upheld by a neutral police force, enforced by an objective legal system and carceral institutions, and defended by an army supported by the Constitution and blessed by religious authorities. The violence of white supremacy becomes naturalized and its beneficiaries see no need for its justification; it is nearly invisible to them, though not, of course, to those it oppresses. “The existence of violence is at the very heart of a racist system,” writes Robert Williams in Negroes with Guns (1962). “The Afro-American militant is a ‘militant’ because he defends himself, his family, his home and his dignity. He does not introduce violence into a racist social system—the violence is already there and has always been there. It is precisely this unchallenged violence that allows a racist social system to perpetuate itself.”

I went back to trying to watch the show when I caught him moving towards me quick in my peripheral vision. Right as he approached I took a step backward and blocked his ankle as he went past. He fell to the grass in a flailing heap. When he got up he was pissed and threw a wild punch. I blocked the punch with my left forearm as I stepped in with my left foot, grabbed his shirt at his left shoulder with my right hand then stepped around his right leg with my right leg and threw him to the ground using O Soto Gari.
From a prepping point of view, it would be good to have some self-defense training. You can’t be armed 24/7 in every location. And some situations just require less force than firing or even brandishing a firearm. On the other hand, you might not want to spend too much time acquiring those self-defense skills. If a particular martial art interests you as a hobby, and self-defense is a secondary consideration, that’s fine. But if you want the most practical skill set in the least time, I’d suggest finding an instructor who can bring together useful techniques from several martial arts, with the primary purpose of teaching self-defense.
Check out hangouts. Do they look safe? Are you comfortable being there? Ask yourself if the people around you seem to share your views on fun activities — if you think they’re being reckless, move on.
With zero sporting applications, Wing Chun needs to be able to deliver solid self-defence skills, and I am pleased to say for the most part it does. Yes, as with any art there are going to be good and bad instructors but it is a very solid and practical close range self-defence system.
The Blazer Brass ammunition is widely known for its affordable and economical price, despite a great shooting performance. If you are a spendthrift person, this .45 ACP ammo is totally suitable for you. First things first, it is equipped with 50 rounds per box.

GMA Instructor Amanda Barron demonstrates the proper technique for drawing a firearm from a purse holster. Be sure to have the gun secured inside the purse, so it’s not flopping around loose, which prevents you from accessing it quickly. Amanda shows both one- and two-handed firing grips. Once you learn the correct technique, practice it
Muay Thai is strictly a standing martial art, but the reason it beats out a few combination/grappling styles is its distinctive brutality. You combine every edge of your body—fists, feet, knees and elbows—to attack your opponent. Also, there’s a movement called “the clinch,” in which you grab your adversary by the back of the head, strike him with your knees and elbows, or throw him to the ground, so it’s not just a one-dimensional art.
Sport based systems, such as kickboxing, Muay Thai, Boxing, Savate, Shoot Boxing, Sanshou, Grappling, Judo, BJJ, Sambo, MMA and Wrestling are not generally suited for Self-Defense, and therefore are purely sport oriented.
Most martial arts training areas are padded, well lit, and free of objects. Natural environments couldn’t be more different! On the street you’ve got curbs, buildings with concrete corners and protruding edges, trees, cars, etc., etc. In rooms there is furniture everywhere. Self defense training must include training in these areas, along with the use of the environment. Learning to slam your opponent into objects and avoid getting slammed and tripping over objects is extremely important.
Furthermore, the hollow points provides deep penetration and offers great knockdown power through their rapid expansion. Therefore, they produce shots with match-grade accuracy as well as close to 100% weight retention for clean firing and proper feeding, thereby contributing to your best shooting performance. Also, the powder utilized is designed for minimal muzzle flash.
Training in a sport that teaches you to be comfortable going to the ground and trains you to choose the ground is not a good tactical move in the street . Weapons, multiple attackers and of course the hard earth itself, with rocks, broken bottles, tree stumps and concrete can rip you to shreds.
All in all, the .45 ACP ammo is popular for its combination of great accuracy as well as amazing stopping power. To make the right choice, it all depends on what you plan on using it with, the additional features and number of rounds you prefer. All that and voila, you have cut down most of the other products to your desired one product.
2. Learned this from a tourist guide. If a robber asks for your wallet and/or purse, DO NOT HAND IT TO HIM. Toss it away from you….  Chances are that he is more interested in your wallet and/or purse than you, and he will go for the wallet/purse. RUN LIKE MAD IN THE OTHER DIRECTION!
I do not agree with those statements. I lift myself and found that in my opinion and performance they compliment each other. But it is dependent on the way you train. Muay Thai is a snapping action art and that comes from the triceps. The bigger the tricep the harder the snappier the punch, the bigger the biceps the pushier the punch. If you lift in proportion it shouldn’t be a problem. The only disadvantage you do have is the bulkier you are, the slower you are but then again…the harder you hit. So you have to focus on the strong points. In terms of damage you might pick up, it depends on what your Muay Thai training looks like. If you can find a club that trains in proper gear there is no damage as the gloves stabilizes your wrist and hands so, as long as you use proper form and technique you will never have a problem. I found that lifting with large muscle groups rather then muscle isolating exercises (like standing barbell curls instead of lets say preacher curls) do help in-proportion building. All the best
The techniques I studied were similar to Muay Thai with the addition of knife and gun techniques. The reason I picked this art as one of my top five was its marginal simplicity, being a bit easier to master than the grappling forms of self-defence. It involves a lot of strikes rather than grabs making it easier to apply, since the area where the technique can be applied is much bigger than in grappling. I found almost all the techniques functional for a street situation. However, a few moves were exceptions and wouldn’t be so effective if common external factors, such as the attacker reacting in a resistant manner, kicked in. All in all, though, this art will teach you how to defend your life if necessary, even if your attacker is wielding a knife or a gun.
The combination of weight training and hitting a heavy bag will do much to relieve stress. Those that live in “tough neighborhoods” will also be able to relieve their stress because they will have less fear of being attacked and actually getting hurt. They will have the knowledge that they can fight back against anyone which boosts confidence and greatly relieves stress.
