In their world, that means picking easy targets. They like sucker-punching (or stabbing) distracted people, using the element of surprise to end a confrontation before it begins. With practice, though, you can adopt the posture of someone who can’t be surprised.
There is no “best” training to learn self defense. No self defense fighting system is 100% guaranteed to make you fully prepared for self defense. There’s always going to be things that happen that are outside of your control and no amount of training will help you. Self defense requires much more than fighting. It involves diffusing potentially violent situations, avoiding and resolving conflict, being aware of your surroundings, knowing when to comply, knowing when to flee, etc. If you failed to recognize danger when you see it and learn to avoid it, you’ve already lost half the battle. I have tried looking for information regarding Keno 5.0 but I can not find anything regarding the martial art. So unfortunately I won’t be able to assist you. You should note though that if a martial is so unknown one has to question it’s effectiveness. Rather stick to proven methods like Krav Maga. All the best.
Simply stated, any program that give you the idea you that you are justified in doing or saying anything you want and that the training will teach you how to fight if someone takes umbrage, isn’t teaching self-defense. It is at best encouraging and reinforcing dysfunctional, selfish behavior and at the worst setting you up to get your brains blown into a fine pink mist if you behave that way towards a truly violent and dangerous person..

You block the opponent’s attack with one hand and respond with the other fist straight into his chest, following with the other fist, again and again, walking into the attacker as you punch. The forward motion of your whole body adds power, which, coupled with the arm strength of the average 100 pound woman, results in about 300 pounds of force rammed repeatedly into the attacker’s chest. The only thing left is to practice your speed in doing this. 15 punches before the attacker can react are not unheard of. These punches also have the advantage of keeping the elbows close to the sides, preventing the attacker from grabbing the punching arm.
Anything with lots of conditioning, high kicks etc, may be ok for today, though you wont be able to kick high forever and not the best thing to use kicking wise in a street fight, as easy to spot. Better low kick, groin height, faster, easier and will do job intended….
The question, however, as others on this thread have indicated, is which martial art makes sense for you in terms of the time you will dedicate to it. These are very personal choices, and I always recommend that someone who is interested in martial arts visit a number of different schools of different styles, always interview the instructors to understand the school’s philosophy (and to determine if the instructors are of good character — which is very important), then try a couple of classes to see if it’s something that you will be willing to dedicated at least the next five years of your life to practicing. Because that’s how long it takes at a minimum to become proficient enough that you can say you are a fighter, not a martial dancer.

There are a few other reasons I like Krav Maga so much. The whole Krav Maga system is based around natural reactions of the body in certain situations, and the techniques are then developed around this concept. Thus you could almost say Krav Maga will be the natural reaction of the body. This is important for one reason: Once you are in a life-threatening situation, adrenalin starts pumping into your system, and your brain loses its finer motor functions. Meaning if you are not extremely well trained in an art, you won’t be able to apply techniques that require steps (which might play a role in the other self-defence arts). Since Krav Maga is based around natural reactions, even a person not so well-trained in martial arts will be able to execute its techniques under stress with relative ease. Krav Maga classes have a tendency to be extremely expensive where I live, though, and classes advance at a very slow pace, so if this might also be your problem, get the book and dvds and start practicing. If you are already a MMA or traditional MA practitioner where sparring is involved, in my opinion, don’t even bother with classes, the book and especially the dvd series will be sufficient. That is just my opinion, though.

Self-defense does not mean standing there and attempting to engage an attacker. It especially doesn’t mean attempting to defeat someone in a physical altercation. It means you only engage long enough to be able to remove yourself from danger and to get to safety.
So following this line of thinking, if you are the average middle aged woman in a relatively safe city, it is extremely unlikely that you will ever find yourself having to fight for your life; or if so, it is extremely unlikely that you will have to do so against a well trained opponent. So no need to achieve ninja status. For most types of situations in which most women will find themselves relying on a martial art, they need to break an attack (often from someone they know) and get away. In these circumstances, a style such as judo, jiu jitsu or aikido is perfect. Their attacker will probably be grabbing them, and all these arts teach their practitioners to redirect their opponent’s energy and counterattack with throws or locks, and each style uses a larger person’s weight against him.

Judo and Jujutsu: These martial arts are based on throws and different types of holds. Some of the individual techniques are useful. I just think that you need too many years of training in these techniques to defend against a strong attacker who punches and kicks. However, the number of techniques means it takes longer to learn. Some of the techniques are a little esoteric, to my mind, and perhaps less useful in facing a real world threat, until/unless you have many years of training.
Work on the assumption that a good martial art, will also show you a ‘way in’ and a ‘way out’, we have many techniques, though will always look at ‘what if’, move goes wrong, timing etc – worst case scenario training. However good you are, you can make mistakes. Being human. Need to know not just how to fight / defend, but to what to do unwravel a mess if you make a mistake – scenario training. We practise stepping wrong way, walking into punches, everything the right way and wrong way, so if mistake – recognise, change, adapt.
That said, many of its practitioners would quickly refute this criticism. One reason is that more so that many other martial arts, it emphasizes kicking – more specifically high kicking.
