Personally im a huge fan of martial arts as a being a big part of your life and a bit of a philosophy, like for example the tenants of TaeKwonDo I think are great to live by, but even still I wouldnt put TKD forward as suitable for self defence, its just hugely inefficient to learn, it takes years to be good enough at it to be really suitable for self defence as learning basic self defence quickly isnt what it is designed for, it is designed to train you to kill people.

Hi martial artist. I told that it is not good to learn striking arts if you lift weights, because weight lifting is a pushing motion while striking is a snapping motion. Is it really that big of a deal? Are there any striking arts I can learn as a weight lifter? Is it ok to learn krav maga if you lift weights? I was told I should not train muay thai if I am a weight lifter becasue it will cause problems.

I am a 22 year old girl anf want to take up some martial art. My purpose for doing it is basically self defence, but I want to make a life long routine out it. What martial art do you suggest, considering that I have no experience? Also, thanks to genetics, I have decent muscle strength, so I woudn’t mind training in grappeling too. Also, I am from Delhi, India, and most of MA classes here are either a hoax or are way out of my budget. So I will be relying heavily on net for the lessons. Since I have been doing it for quite a long time now (7 years), it functions quite well as a supplementary martial art to my Muay Thai and BJJ (main martial arts) as it teaches excellent balance manipulation skills. It is however in my opinion not sufficient as a self defence martial art on its own not taking into account the exceptions.
